IGC Press Release - Conference 2015 Launch

Ireland's Guidance Counsellors will be arriving in the South-East for their Annual Conference on 27th & 28th February. Over 500 Guidance Counsellors will be arriving in Waterford with leading experts dignitaries, and politicians expected to attend.

With the theme 'Being Positive in Guidance' they are really looking forward to kicking off the celebrations with Keynote Speaker Jolanta Burke, a Positive Psychology expert. They'll be engaging in a diverse range of workshops on Happiness, Positive Mental Health in Families, Creative Techniques in Engaging Adolescents, How to Get the Job You Really Want, Positive Tools to Empower Adult Learners and many more.

Lola O'Sullivan Mayor of Waterford officially launched the conference last Wednesday 21st January in the Tower Hotel Waterford with representatives attending from main sponsors DCU, supporting sponsors Maynooth University, University of Limerick, Careersportal, Society of Chartered Surveyors and hosting sponsor Waterford Institute of Technology.

It's been 13 years since their last gathering in Waterford was hosted by the South-East Branch and the indefatigable enthusiasm of the IGC's new President Betty McLaughlin promises to make the event a rallying of the troops for Professional Guidance Counselling in Ireland.

Speaking at the launch Ms. McLaughlin said,
“As guidance counsellors our work can often bring us to dark and negative places , but turning negatives to positives is what we do every day in our work with students. Building resilience is what we are about and I am delighted to see it reflected in the theme of our conference.”
